Good Neighbor Laws
This section is designed to highlight those Town regulations that could become minor sources of annoyance to our neighbors if disregarded. They represent a portion of the Town regulations that should be observed and practiced as a common courtesy to others.
DOG REGULATIONS
It shall be unlawful for a dog to be on public or private property (includes PWEA beach) unless effectively restrained by a leash not exceeding six feet (Town Code Chapter 14, Section 14 ).
It shall be unlawful for a dog to be on public or private property (includes PWEA beach) to defecate, urinate or commit a nuisance on public or private property (includes PWEA beach) (Town Code Chapter 14, Section 5).
There is a presumption that these regulations assume that the dog walker in violation does so without the consent of the owner of private property. The owners of the private property that is our beach, represented by the Board of Directors, has recently relaxed to beach regulation prohibiting dogs but still require dog walkers to use a leash and clean up after their pets.
Dog walkers shall immediately remove all feces, place it in a plastic bag and deposit it in a covered garbage receptacle (Town Code Chapter 14, Section 5).
NOISE
PLEASE be mindful of your neighbors. This regulation applies to both yourselves and your contractors. NO NOISE before 10am or after 5pm at weekends or public holidays. In particular:
Leaf blowers: the operation of any motorized leaf blower, lawn mower, hedge, lawn or tree trimmer, mulcher or similar device on a weekday prior to 8:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. or on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday prior to 10:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m.
GARBAGE REMOVAL
No cans, plastic bags or debris should be placed at the curb before sunset the day before a scheduled pickup day and should be removed not later than sunrise on the day after a scheduled pickup. For example, if a pickup day is Tuesday, put out the garbage after sunset Monday and put the cans away before sunrise Wednesday.
Note. This regulation does not apply to cans or plastic bags containing yard waste from October 1 to December 31 (Town Code Chapter 34, Section 3).
LAWN MAINTENANCE
Yards and lawns must be maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe condition (Town Code Chapter 28, Section 27, sub. G).
VEHICLES
It is unlawful to abandon or leave articles of personal property (which includes vehicles, moveable objects and other items) in any public place, which is available to or used by the general public (Town Code Chapter 40A, Section 3).
